Virginia Beach/ Busch Gardens Family Vacation?

I am from williamsburg VA. I love VA Beach but it is so diff from what I remember! The water is dirty and nasty and so is the beach. I would suggest staying near Busch for the simple fact that there is so much more around that area where you can visit. VA Beach is more of a hang out clubby spot. The drive diff b/c Busch and VA Beach is more than 1 hour long and you have to drive through the Hampton Tunnel which is almost always backed up! I would definately stay near Busch Gardens!
 
We live in NJ , so we decided a car ride won't be bad for a mini-vaction.
1 day we plan on going to Virginia another day we want to go to Busch gardens. [April 9th-April 11th]
QUESTION IS ::
Should we stay in a hotel near Virginia Beach or Busch Gardens?
I heard they are 50 miles apart and we don't know which place to stay at. What would be more logical?
