I haven't driven my 2010 Volkswagen Passat for over 2 hours but the engine is still very hot. I don't think it's ever done that before. It was a very hot day today, but shouldn't it have cooled off by now?

Hmm thats strange, It should have cooled down within a hour, enough for you to touch it. Have you checked your oil lately or coolant levels?? If your passat has a turbo, and you do a lot of fast driving (easy to do with these cars) you may need to add an extra quart of oil or so in between oil changes. It's not uncommon. If anyone reading this doesn't agree, feel free to look that up. Even parked under direct sunlight, on a hot day, I find that strange. It might extend how long it stays hot, but it shouldn't be VERY hot. Just warm, but you should be able to touch it. Check your fluid levels to see if anything is low, it should have cooled off by then. What area does the heat seem to come from? Is it near your turbo?

Check to see if theres any coolant left in the reservoir.
