3rd generation...MARK 3 if you really want to know .... so you as every 5 years car makers change or improve the model since jetta's and golf are a flagship of the VW they just keep imrpoving the model therefore comes the jetta (original one) then the jetta mk2 and so on and so forth for the golf until they become discontinued theyre on the MK5 right now
