Whenever I park my car (1999 VW Polo), I wait until the car is at a complete stop, put the handbrake on, take it out of gear and slowly lift the pedals up - but recently as I lift the pedals up the car actually rolls a few inches forward (or backward depending on the slope of the ground) and then it stops completely. Is there something wrong with the handbrake? Should I take it to the garage? Note: I'm not too good with cars so simple answers appreciated!

your back brakes need either adjusting up or replacing or the handbrake cable has snapped. if you dont know much about cars then you're better off to take it to a garage. shouldn't be too big or expensive a job. no more than 50-60 quid max i would reckon. good luck
