was nostradamus really a prophet?

or were his predictions so vague that they could apply to any time throughout history? the reason i ask is so many point at biblical prophecies as "proof" that the bible is the word of god. these prophecies are just as vague as those made by nostradamus. so was he really a prophet?
 
I saw a doc on Nostradamus. What I learnt was that further research into his life showed that he was a historian not a prophet. Which quite frankly makes way more sense.
