Was the "attitude era" of pro wrestling the reason UFC is so successful?

As we all know, pro wrestling was huge in the late 90's, early 2000's. And a large percentage of those viewers were teenage boys and young adult men. My theory is those same people moved on to UFC because it's somewhat similar to WWE, but real. I feel that if there had never been an "attitude era", that MMA would not have had the success it does now. I mean, UFC has been around for nearly two decades but no one really started caring about it until like 2005.
