When we are driving it, it seems like 3rd gear is the only one that is whining. Worse on hills. We live out in the Boonies! Could this just be gear oil? We heard it could be the transmission bearing? It does have a little of a rattling noise to it, when u shift, also. This truck is the v6 engine, 2 Wheel drive. When i was a kid, my dad had an old chevy truck that did this all of the time, and it lasted forever! The whining that is!. Anyone have any input? Appreciate it!
Oh, i forgot! Can we still pull our boat, that weighs maybe a ton. (so my old man says) I don't think it is that heavy.

Hard to tell from your description. At least you can rule a rear end problem (a few V8's did have a problem. My friend got a new one on his 95 under warranty). Engine & trans never never had a problem. Sold it at 150K top dollar.

Make sure it is full of clean oil, that's about it. Noisy bearings will be that way, sometimes forever and sometimes they fail really quick. Drive it easy, don't do a lot of heavy pulling or carrying.

if it,s not getting any worse then it,s probably the nature of it. but it probably would not hurt to have the grease changed in the transmission.
