I am a bookworm, and I wish I knew more about the adult content in books before I read them.
I am not looking for reviews, I am looking for ratings such as PG, PG13, etc. Which would explain the contents of the book. I know there is controversy over putting ratings on books, especially from libraries, authors and publishers (very understandably). I am simply looking for a website where I can learn if there is profanity, sex 'scenes' or graphic violence in books.

I have come across websites for children, but not for adult books. Sometimes the things can be tastefully done, but I would like to know what I'm getting into before deciding to purchase a book which incorporates erotica ;)

And... websites such as Amazon, B&N, and Borders do not have such things. They have reviews, not ratings.

Thanks in advance for any answers!

I think the Amazon reviews are your best bet. How long can it take to read the top couple of reviews - the professional ones? They should give you a fair indication of how explicit a book is.

Or you could try one of the Christian review sites, but to be honest I wouldn't bother - their "not acceptable" criteria tend to include things like "OMG the good guy doesn't go to church every week!"

For erotica.... you can try sites like literotica.com
it is indeed one of the few good sites for erotica... and as for knowing that you are reading something worth your time and effort.. go ny their easy to navigate but huge index... there are favoutites in each category plus awarded stories too...
go ahead try it... :)

Library Thing is excellent, and seems to be what you're looking for. I think it has a feature that warns of content.
