What advantage does a Blu ray movie have over a DVD movie?

I know Blu ray is a new technology so they will make it better than DVD movies, so what's the advantage?
 
The picture on a Blu-ray player is up to four times better and the sound is improved too. However, to get the best of it, you need a full-HD TV (1080P) and a Blu-ray disc player with a half decent HDMI cable. It really does look impressive though. Individual blades of grass and water reflections look particularly good.
