What are some interesting topics to write an essay about besides anything historical?

I have to do a 4 page essay towards the end of the school year and my English teacher is driving us up the wall asking us what do we want to write about and all these other things. We could write about anything we want to but the thing is whatever idea I come up with could possibly not meet up to the required 4 pages.

Any ideas about what I could write about?

Gay marriage. Whether or not it will affect society, gay parents raising a child, etc.

Abortion. Is it right or wrong.

Controversial topics will be a good way to gain 4 pages.
