I know New Zealand is popular for some of it's wines and my husband is from there. I would like to surprise him with a nice bottle if I can find one.

New Zealand is probably best known for its Sauvignon Blanc, especially those from Marlborough County. Buy the youngest you see (ideally 2006), as these are meant to be drunk young. Names to look for include Giesen, Chimney Creek, Kim Crawford, Stoneleigh, Nobilo (especially the reserve) and Monkey Bay. They should be widely available at any wine merchant, and probably even some mass market shops.

The answerer above me gave good advice, but these brands may not be widely exported. You ar more likely to find wines from the companies "Montana" (I know, doesn't sound kiwi, but it is), "Marlborough Sound", "Villa Maria", and "White Cloud". Those tend to be pretty good, and it's unlikely you would embarrass your husband by buying one of them, because they do represent the higher end anyway.Cheers!

This wine is a light straw color. Another bargain in a screw top bottle.
