What are them blu ray dvds players are like?

I'm thinking about getting a blu-ray dvd player next month , What are they like ? and can you play normal dvds discs on them . and is there any website to show you whats the pic is like on a blu ray player. Are they worth having ? also do I need a HD t.v for the blu ray dvd player too work
