You have to read City of Bones by Cassandra Clare (the very definition of 'Forbidden Love'. Blurb on the back of the book: It’s after dark in New York City, and Clary Fray is seeing things. The best-looking guy in the nightclub just stabbed a boy to death – but the victim has just vanished into thin air. Her mother has just disappeared, and a hideous monster is lurking in her apartment. With her life spiraling into darkness, Clary realises that she has just stumbled into an invisible war between ancient demonic forces and the secretive Shadowhunters – a war in which she has a fateful role to play…
The characters are absolutely hilarious! One guy called Jace Wayland is a hot demon-hunter who is described as looking like an angel and has golden hair that looks like a halo. He's really sarcastic and confident and KNOWS he's good looking. Clary at first hates him because to her he's arrogant, so the two of them clash and are hilarious together. But they then fall in love, and devastatingly find out that they're sister and brother (it sounds gross, but it's interesting how they struggle with it and what they do because of it - they try and date other people, this gets the other person upset and jealous, they try and deny their feeling for one another etc.) by the way, you can be happy at the end - they actually aren't brother and sister - it was a cruel trick to turn them on each other made by the evil villain, and they get to be together. It's really well written and the characters are hilarious, so you'll enjoy reading it! Here are some quotes from the book to show you what I mean: (Note: all these quotes are from before Jace thinks Clary is his sister - he's flirting with her and interested in her)
- “I don't want to be a man," said Jace. "I want to be an angst-ridden teenager who can't confront his own inner demons and takes it out verbally on other people instead."
"Well," said Luke, "you're doing a fantastic job."
- Jace: A Diary with no drawings of me in it? Where are the torrid fantasies? The romance covers? The-
Clary: Do ALL the girls you meet fall in love with you?
- "Don't order any of the faerie food," said Jace, looking at her over the top of his menu. "It tends to make humans a little crazy. One minute you're munching a faerie plumb, the next minute you're running naked down Madison Avenue with antlers on your head. Not," he added hastily, "that this has ever happened to me."
- "It means 'Shadowhunters: Looking Better in Black Than the Widows of our Enemies Since 1234.'" – Jace
- "'the cuckoo bird,' she said. 'You see, cuckoos are parasites. They lay their eggs in other birds' nests. When the egg hatches, the baby cuckoo pushes the other baby birds out of the nest. The poor parent birds work themselves to death trying to find enough food to feed the enormous cuckoo child who has murdered their babies and taken their places.'
'Enormous?' said Jace. 'Did you just call me fat?'
'It was an analogy.'
'I am not fat.'

- “What are all these?" Clary asked.
"Vials of holy water, blessed knives, steel and silver blades," Jace said, piling the weapons on the floor beside him, "electrum wire—not much use at the moment, but it's always good to have spare—silver bullets, charms of protection, crucifixes, stars of David—"
"Jesus," said Clary.
"I doubt he'd fit."
- Clary: Don't, I'm not really in the mood right now
Jace: That's got to be the first time a girl's ever said that to me
- Clary: Sarcasm is the refuge of the imaginatively bankrupt.
Jace: I can't help it. I use my rapier wit to hide my inner pain.
- “Those girls on the other side of the car are staring at you." [Clary]
Jace assumed an air of mellow gratification. "Of course they are," he said. "I am stunningly attractive."
"Haven't you heard that modesty is an attractive trait?"
"Only from ugly people," Jace confided. "The meek may inherit the earth, but at the moment it belongs to the concieted. Like me." He winked at the girls, who giggled and hid behind their hair.
- “Hey pretty thing," he said [the vampire]. "What's in the bag?"
"Holy water," said Jace, reappearing beside her [Clary] as if he'd been conjured up like a genie. A sarcastic blond genie with a bad attitude.
"Oooh a Shadowhunter," said the vampire. "Scary."
- Clary grinned. "A picnic? It's a little late for Central Park, don't you think? It's full of---"
He waved a hand. "Faeries. I know."
"I was going to say muggers," said Clary. "Though I pity the mugger who goes after you." -Clary and Jace
- “No. My eyes are usually described as golden," Jace told the intercom. "And luminous."
Hope I helped!
