What can you do about a pittbull attack?

I have been attacked By a pittbull. I have 33 wounds and still healing. I need to know what will stop an animal from attacking you? ( if i can carry pepper spray ? ) will that get the animal off of me? i am terrified for my life every time i see or happen to be around any kind of DOGS. I was nearly killed. If someone can give me any good ideas what to carry with me for my saftey. If there is a NEXT TIME!
