what could be the problem with my a/c in my suv?

I have a 2007 Ford expedition xl . I noticed a while back that on the ground around where the muffler is the was a yellowish water plus slightly oily kind of drip marks on the ground. My a/c was still working excellent after about 2 months my a/c just stopped blowing cold air. could it be a leak in a hose or something. Im sure all the freon stuff is gone but i don't know if there is a leak soemwhere or if that spot ont he ground has anything to do with the a/c. fromt he sounds of it does anyone know what the problem could be? and if so what the average cost should be so that I dont get ripped off or maybe i can have my husband fix it himself. we are in the Army and we just cant put out thousands on an a/c. all your help would be great.
