What could India and the BCCI have done better in the lead-up to their tour of

England? An expanded IPL led to a longer tournament and a lesser quality of play (if that's even possible).

An extended World Cup, where there were rarely two games played on the same day, all milked for pay television so there was no divided audience.

Lack of tour matches to acclimatise to local conditions, since they were owned by the above conditions.
@Must Beat The Meat, Tests have always followed one after the other, those that have the gumption schedule five.
The ball has always moved around in England.

They paid the price for playing too much cricket and holding on to old dead wood. A better lead up preparation was needed but I am still sure they would have still lost the series in convincing fashion.

Ban all its international players from playing in the IPL (this would mean players like Zaheer, Harbhajan, Sehwag and in the ODI's Tendulkar would not have been injured). Also playing more leadup matches.

not a genuine reason as they played 4 tests , one after one after one and even if they would have played 50 tests the result would be same because pitches were seriously doctored in favor of english bowlers and the old ball would have kept flying dubiously in all 50 tests

the core issue was damp dcotored grassed pitches suitable for taller fatser bowlers and unreasonable swing of old duke ball all the time for one team.

i don't take such reasonings for loss, they were just simply cheated in the whole series !

the key issue was why england made untrue bifaced and cheaing damp pitches and also why they got so much swing with the old ball whereas indians couldn't move it an inch.

we always watched even medium pacers in england are effective with swing but this time it was only for english faster bowlers only courtesy pitch doctoring and ball tampering
