I have a one year old pit bull and whenever my boyfriend and I leave the house he gets into trouble. He will eat the garbage or tear up the rug, clothes or start eating the coach or fabric curtains and chairs. He has also started eating the molding on the closets and has started eating the walls. We do not know what to do, we leave the deck door open so he can go in and out and we can not gate him off. HELP!!!

This is where crate training is needed. Get him a crate large enough to stand up, lie down and turn around. Put him in the crate with a Kong toy stuffed full of cheese or peanut butter and see how he does. Probably not a good idea to crate him and leave him for several hours the first day. See how he does after half an hour. Some dogs can dismantle crates or injure themselves trying to escape.

Possible separation anxiety, but only a professional dog behaviorist will be able to tell you for sure.
see links for consulting with a trainer/behaviorist and for tips on dealing with separation anxiety. Good luck.

put him in a crate when you're not home and when you are home spend alot of time exercising him and paying him attention.

Puppies chew. Mine chewed a very long stair case in my house.

he is probably teething.

Startle/scold him when you catch him chewing.
Give him chew toys.
Spray dog deterrent
Hide the stuff you don't want chewed.
