what do u wear to cook or clean?

i just ruined a dress while cooking and the thing is i have an apron that i got from my gran that hangs on my kitchen door, it is the type worn by old ladies (cotten that ties at back and goes over your head .im 29 yr women and i find it very embarrassing if people see me wearing the apron and i dont know why. what do young women wear these days while cooking and would u find it embarrassing to wear one ?????
