I have done my research, so no "do your own research" comments please.

"Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Overland Trail, Yosimite Falls, even Route 66 - which single state can you see them all?"

On this one, I have my guess to be California - you can see all of them except Grand Canyon, but the condor bird flies the grand canyon to california, but I don't think that counts.

The Overland Trail went only through Kansas, Colorado & Wyoming - but I read something about a California Overland.
Death Valley - Eastern California (near the border of California & Nevada)
Grand Canyon - Arizona (where the Colorado river ran through)
Yosimite Falls - California & Nevada
Route 66 - Ran through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona & California.

Okay and on Clue 5.. "On the fabled tenth of may --- what two burgs still seemed oceans apart?"

My guess is Council Bluff, Iowa & Omaha, Nebraska from reading the following:

The First Transcontinental Railroad (known originally as the "Pacific Railroad" and later as the "Overland Route") was a railroad line built in the United States between 1863 and 1869 by the Central Pacific Railroad of California and the Union Pacific Railroad that connected its statutory Eastern terminus at Council Bluffs, Iowa/Omaha, Nebraska[1][2] (via Ogden, Utah and Sacramento, California) with the Pacific Ocean at Alameda, California on the southern shore of San Francisco Bay opposite San Francisco.

What do y'all think??
