For the past year or so, every once in awhile, I have these recurring dreams. Well, they're all different in some way or another, but the main 'theme' of the dreams are the same.
The theme is, I always 'wake up' in my dream, in the same exact position I fell asleep in, and it's so vivid most of the time I think I've just nodded off for a second and am really awake.
But then when I try to move, I find it next to impossible (and that is when I realize I'm dreaming), either it feels like my bones are made of metal and I'm lying on a powerful magnet, making it a colossal effort to lift my arm up a few inches off the bed. Or I seem to be able to move my arm freely and normally, but my eyes are telling me that I haven't moved at all (like, I felt my arm lift up off the bed, but there I see it, still lying on my pillow). Usually I at this point I'm feeling pure terror, and I try to thrash about to wake myself up for real. Sometimes I do wake up right away, but sometimes I only appear to wake up, and really the dream has just started all over again, making me think for a second that I've woken up before the terror returns with the realization that I haven't (this can loop on and on for awhile).
Sometimes there'll be a perceivable reason for my terror, a rattling breath and shuffling feet approaching my door in the hall, or the certain knowledge that SOMETHING is there.
The other night I dreamt a demon was possessing a cat in my house, so when a cat I didn't recognize jumped onto my bed I grabbed it (paralysis suddenly gone) and was about to strangle it before I saw how it looked at me, it was just a cat, innocent.
Then my pet cat jumped up next to me on the bed, and I knew the demon had tricked me when it started speaking to me from the mouth of my cat (I don't remember what it said). In horror, I ran from my room only to encounter someone I recognized (not from real life, but he was familiar somehow) in the hall, and I knew, the way you know things in dreams, this person was possessed by the devil himself. He started to speak to me in a horrible voice, before I cut him off with my own, banishing him from here in the name of God. Then I closed my eyes and imagined and huge blast of light coming from my hands to banish him. I didn't know or even half believe it would work, and I'm not sure if it did, because then I woke up.
I past dreams, whenever I would call upon the name of God to banish terrorizing demons, it was always with great difficulty. Like I could barely force the words out. This last time it was much easier than I ever remembering it being before, my voice was still weak and faltering, but I got the words out with relative ease. The whole blast of light thing was entirely new though.
Sorry for the length, I'd really appreciate an un-biased view on this and what it might mean, thanks!
P.S. No I am not on drugs or watching/reading horror stories at all.
