A few years ago, I had a beta fish that disappeard. Till this day, I am wondering what ever happend to him. Can fish REALLY disappear? or dissolve into the water?

I had no other fish but him, i have small rocks at the bottom (wasnt in the rocks), i check everywhere (the tank was small with a lid that had small slits enough to get plenty of air), no animal could have got to it because it was on a shelf, it was alive for about 2 years I believe and it was healthy, it ate all its food and I clean its mini-tank as much as needed. How could this have happend? No filter either. Just poof. Gone. I left one day, came back the next to see Lil' Malibu was..gone.
litterally, gone; disappear.

Any guesses or scentific data based on fishes disappearing? :/

If your fish lived for two years, that's a long time, so it wouldn't be unusual for it to die naturally without you doing anything wrong. It could have died then quickly decomposed or decomposed enough that you couldn't see it. I've had a lot of fish in my lifetime and sometimes when they die they're REALLY hard to find, especially if you don't notice for a day or longer and they've started to decomp some. Betas can jump too, so it could have jumped and gotten stuck on the lid and died there, then maybe fallen off when you took off the lid. It's not physically possible for it to disappear into thin air, it probably just wasn't visible. It's easy to not see a small dead fish. You never know, there are a lot of possibilities for a tiny little fish to get lost after it's dead.
