What exactly is Jailbreaking an iPhone?

I know what jailbreaking is and how to do it, but what are the benefits?
What exactly do you get?
Give details for best answer, and answer these questions:
1) Can you download tv seasons?
2) How to you get games?
3) How do you get stuff?

Cydia and Installer are the key things.
 
jailbreaking is invalidating the repair seal so if you jail break your iphone and it breaks then... too bad.
You dont get anything, you just have the ability to do stuff that isnt available on the app store.

1)Yes, but why jailbreak your phone for that. You can buy tv shows from itunes/app store. Or you could just find the shows online then move them to your iphone.

2) You also purchase game's through the app store.

3) You buy it from itunes/the app store.

If you want an open source phone get a google andriod (thats the phone im getting). You can do whatever tpye of coding/programming you want with it. and if it breaks you can get it repaired. You cant do that with the iphone.
