What gauge is best for a goose/duck hunt?

I am going on my first goose/duck hunt next month and am curious what gauge is best for this. Also are there any gauges I should not use for this hunt. I am going to go shotgun shopping soon and want to know what gauges I should look at and which ones I should rule out. Thanks!

i use a Mossberg 12 gauge. i use 2/34 in shells for ducks and 3 in for geese

For duck a 12 ga. For geese, most people that hunt them a lot opt for a 10 due to the fact geese fly higher and are much larger birds so it provides more range, denser shot pattern, and extended range.
