If people could avoid their possible deaths but by doing so slowly went closer to a horrific unavoidable death, I think most would still avoid the earlier deaths. It's our instinct to avoid pain and injury and death, and people might justify it as "all the good they can do" in the extra time given (or is it taken?) but when that time finally came, they'd really really hate it, even though they have no choice but to suffer horribly then die. I've seen enough sci-fi and read enough about what tortures are possible so I'd be a bit more cautious, and probably would go for a sorta-early death as opposed to a nasty agonizing death later. As for anything the Final Destination series might say on the subject, it's all jibberish and just meant to amuse an audience for profit, nothing more. Death, however sucky it might be, is something we all get to experience. Kinda like a pregnant woman. She may not *want* to have a baby, but the act is already in motion. In time, something is coming out of her one way or another. It's that unavoidable surety of death that still scares me. I don't want to think about death, but one day it will happen wether I'm prepared for it or not.
