what is a MAP sensor and an IAC motor.. for an 89 Ford F150 ?

You might have a blown out "fusible link" that is a fuse embedded in the wiring that goes from your battery to your fuse box. Look up "fusible link" for your make year model on http://www.autozone.com

I can't seem to get my 89 Ford F150 started ?? It seems like it might be the ignition or the selenoid ?? The battery is charged but when I turn the ignition switch, nothing happens. The starter seems fine, as I jumped it by connecting the battery cable to the starter cable after disconnecting it from the selenoid.. so I'm thinking the problem must be with the selenoid or the ignition switch ?? replaced the selenoid but now the problem still exists AND the lights nor the fuel pump will come on when the key is turned, HOWEVER, if I connect the battery cable to the ignition cable, and put the key in, the bell will sound and the lights will come on ?? I can't figure it out and am wondering about the MAP sensor or the IAC motor.. a mechanic says they might need to be replaced, but I don't know what they do, and if that could be the problem ???

I will withhold my opinion of the *mechanic* that told you that it might be the MAP or IAC.

First, the basics; check all of your fuses and fuse links. Check the chassis and engine for a solid ground connection.
Check the ignition switch for 12 volts - if it isn't getting the voltage supply, it certainly can't switch it on to ignition or crank.
