I have a 99 Jeep GC 4.7 V8 that i had the engine replaced put another in by a mechanic. He also replaced a CAM sensor and a Thermostat. I drove it away about 60 miles home and then went to walmart when leaving i noticed that i heard a gurgling noise behind the dash. Then the temperature started to rise and before it got really high i pulled it over. I let it cool and i started for home and made it without it overheating. I called the mechanic who done the engine work and he said that it sounds like air in the cooling system. so i let it cool and i added antifreeze until i saw it come out of the bleed plug to purge the air out like the service manual said to do. Well it did not fix the gurgling noise but it didnt overheat for two days. Then at night a couple days later i noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. the heat went cold and it started to idle funny. the temp started to climb again i pulled over and let it cool then added antifreeze until i saw it out of the bleed plug again and it made it home. I then took it to the mechanics house and he told me that it either cracked the head or blew a head gasket. The company that i bought the motor from says that if it overheats the warranty is void. I know that i did not let the jeep get near red line. I done all i knew to do and took the mechanics advice, The mechanic tells me that it will be at least 900 labor. I feel it was his responsibility to make sure that everything was running correctly before i picked it up. Is he at fault? He did change the thermostat, he also will not tell me the initial cause without me paying for him to tear it down. I feel i am being taken advantage of big time. It was his resposibility to make sure that everything was operating correctly when he put the engine in.
