What is better for the planet? Electric cars or Unleaded fueled SUVs?

Assume the SUV gets 19mpg highway and the Electric Car charges each night at a house that is on a power grid fueled by a coal fire plant.
 
Let me see. 19mpg vs. 50mpg.

The pollution the electric vehicle generates by the coal fire plant is minimal compared with the amount of gases the SUV spews to the atmosphere.

But the real question is, where are all those batteries going after the 8 year lifetime they have?

Now who is polluting more, the electric car or the SUV?
