Little snitch sometimes asks about this application accessing the internet on ports such as 139, and I wonder if it should be blocked or if it's just some regular part of OS X. Due to the network at work, I must have Windows sharing activated.

nmbd is part of Samba -- in plain English, "Windows Sharing".To keep Little Snitch quiet on valid network calls, try adding the following rules:nmbd Allow connections to your local networknmbd Deny any connection.

nmbd Manages NetBIOS (PC file sharing) over IP. It's a standard mac OSX process. If you want to run IP file sharing, keep it running.
