what is so much better about bittorrent than limewire?

i have had limewire for years, but recently downloaded bittorrent because everyone says it is so much faster, but sometimes i can download something on limewire in as little as 30 seconds, when it would take around 5 minutes on bittorrent. does anyone know if there i something i can do to make bittorrent faster? people say that bittorrent is really fast but i might as well use limewire with what i have experienced in bittorrent.

Check out www.portforward.com and find the torrent program you are using and open the ports on your router. The site will explain all about opening ports. Also, I want to recommend getting a program call uTorrent. It usually has the best connection speeds and has a small virus protection on it.
