What is the best deal for a train ticket to travel around tokyo?

Going to Japan. Have looked at the Japan Rail Pass which is like every rail way in Japan. Don't know if it's worth getting if half the trip is going to be spent in tokyo? What's a good/cheap train ticket to get for travelling around tokyo for a week?
 
If you're looking for convenience, buy a Suica or a Pasmo card. They should be available at any station.
