newbie... 600cc sports bike.. mobile donor..

if you think your too big for a 250.. the 600 isnt much bigger..

buy a second hand 250cc bike & ride that on the road for a year...

then you will have an idea .... & can look at a bigger newer bike..

You have some experience in dirt bike riding, yet you are looking at a 250 machine.

Is this because of your location, living in a country where a 250cc bike is a large displacement, or is it because you have concerns about the combination of bike and you.

If the former, then it seems fair to give it a lot of consideration, because the more common and smaller displacement ones will not please you.

If it is the latter then you may want to ignore the fools that recommend a high-performance 600 cc as a starter bike.

It is true that anyone can get on and riad a bike of any displacement, including the 600cc R6 for example, but it is far from true that an R6 is "starter" bikes and if you believe you can outgrow it, or one similar to it, in a few days then you are lying to yourself. You can get yourself into trouble on any bike, but you can do it a lot quicker on one of these, and when it happens you are likely to be it at a higher speed than you would like to be at when the trouble begins.

These are literally racing machines that have been modified to use on the road. Their performance capability is considerably higher than that of most riders, no matter what their beliefs may be, but this imparts a comfort level that many riders take as meaning their own skill must be very good, and it is not that at all. The moment you get beyond your own skill level you are in danger, no matter what you are riding. These things can get you there more easily than other machines.

Your best bet might be to start with a motorcycle training course. These courses are available at different skill levels, from rank beginner to novice rider, then to experienced and on up to racing.

You will learn more than you know now about street riding. That is guaranteed, even if you have been riding for a few years, as they will teach you better habits and add some new things you probably had never thought of.

Two nice parts are 1:
They can also assist you in choosing a bike for yourself, based on what they see in you and your riding skill, as well as the use to which you will put the new bike.
and 2:
You will likely get a discount on the insurance for your bike, and the discounts usually continue for three years.

Welcome to the world of street riding. Enjoy it, and be safe.

250 is WAY to small for you.

Minimum size should be a 600, but you could easily go into the 1000cc range.

1000cc might seem like to much at first, but you will out grow a 250 in about 2 days, the 600 won't be enough after one riding season.

The 250 would be small for you and because you already have some riding experience, I'd recommend starting on a 600cc, it has more than enough power for you
