My boyfriend and I are talking about getting engaged in the next several months. He has a 4 year old daughter that I have yet to meet. We want to take all precautions with my meeting her because we don't want her to feel uncomfortable in any way. I would love suggestions from anyone who might have been in this situation.
Thank you in advance

Just my opinion, but I've been in your shoes, and here's what I would suggest:

Be sure to meet her the first time or two in neutral territory. The park, zoo or a restaurant. Something fun would be even be better, like the Amazing Pizza Machine or Chuck E. Cheese. Try not to be touchy-feely with dad in front of her, that may take time. Start simple, hand holding and such. Don't try to be her mother, but be firm with your boundaries and don't be a push over. Don't try to lavish presents on her or something. And the first gift-giving holiday keep it simple but thoughtful. And most of all, try to engage her in activity. Kids love people who get on their level to have fun. So jump in and have fun!

You didn't say if you had any children of your own. I have a four year old daughter and all you really have to do to become acquainted is get down on her level. Ask her what her faviorite toy is. What did Santa bring her this year? Does she like Dora the Explorer? Be fun! Try and keep it simple, she's 4 so as long as you smile, have a kind voice and show her you care about how she feels you should be fine.

My daughter loves when people tell her how beautiful she is and that her hair looks "so cute today". That of course is because she is a girly girl and that's her personality but every little girl is different. Good luck!
