What is the best way to care for a motorola v3m battery?

I have a Motorola V3m cellphone. i charged the battery every night, whether it needed it or not, I purchased it in April of 2007 and all of the sudden the battery goes down to two bars after talking for one half hour. What is the best way to care for these batteries?
