What is the cheapest way to get a spare key for your volkswagen?

I have a 2001 volkswagen cabrio and i need to program my new keyless remote, but i only have one key. What is the best and cheapest way for me to get this key? and will the valet key work as the second key for installing the remote, thanks!
i said cheapest way! i know theirs a DYI method, and i already have the remote. i just need it programmed.

Sorry but I think you might have to pay your local vw dealer a visit and its not cheap ..basic is about 125 dollars and keyless is over 200 dollars.I hope that I'm wrong.
