What is the counterpart in Melville's The Paradise of Bachelors and the Tartarus of

Maids? Help me! I don't understand the ways in which the world of the bachelors and that of the maids may be considered as being each the “counterpart” of the other, by focusing on both an “obvious” and a “latent” feature connecting the “Paradise” and the “Tartarus.” The second half of this dyptich provides an intriguing representation of female sexuality, isn't it?
