As mentioned previously, mainframe work doesn't get the spotlight much but, at least in the US, it's still going strong. Most corporate and government processing still continues to use mainframes for the heavy lifting and I don't see that changing any time soon. In fact, until I finally got tired of travel, I made a very good living for over 20 years as a mainframe consultant and as dinosaurs like me retire out of the industry, the demand (and billable rates) will likely continue to rise.
