What is the meaning of all of the "in Soviet Russia, x does x" jokes everywhere online? I see the comments on youtube and lots of other places across the internet. Whenever I see a video called x (usually a person or object) does x, these "Soviet Russia" jokes come up. So a video called "little girl plays with ball" results in comments of, "In Soviet Russia, the balls play with you." Another example, a kid playing throws a rock...and generates youtube comments of, "In Soviet Russia, rocks throw you." Where did this start? It's seemingly almost as bad as the dumb "Chuck Norris" jokes. What is the significance of "Soviet Russia" in the comment? Obviously, the "Soviet Union" as we know it does not exist anymore per se...so why the comments. What's the meaning of them, whether sarcastic or otherwise? What's crazier about "Soviet Russia" than say, any other country in the time period being referred to? Also, I posted this in "jokes and riddles" because it seems to be a sarcastic riddle or something.
