<Freedom>'s information is not generally scholarly believed & is conjecture by one of the folks trying to create ancient connections & notions. Jews have nothing to do with Freemasons, except that antisemites try to connect them together frequently in history such as in the fake book "The Protocol of the Elders." I would seriously, seriously doubt any connection to Rothchild is legit considering it's not mentioned in any scholarly books...and it's not what the name means. (Child means "river".) It is mentioned on conspiracy theory sites, many of which are antisemitic. ..................... The orgin of the star is unknown. It was used by other cultures before it was asigned to Judaism. It was first connected with Judaism in around the 1700s in several instances. It was somewhat used, but still not heavily, until the Nazis assigned it to the Jews as part of their campaign. Post-war as Israel was forming, there was huge debate in the Jewish community on whether to use this star that had been a symbol of oppression or to use something else like the menorah that is an ancient symbol that was found in the Temple itself. The menorah has 7 candles, while the Hanukaih which is for Hannukah has 9 branches. It's 8 days of the miracle of light as the anicent story goes, with one shamus (leader) to light the rest. This site will have a lot more on both symbols: http://www.jewfaq.org
