What is the purpose of a throttle knob in my 1952 Ford truck?

Right next to the pull choke in my truck there is also a pull throttle. My truck does not have a PTO. Looking at pictures online looks like having a throttle knob is common in these trucks. Does anyone know what this would have been used for? Has a flathead v8
