i have a 1994 ford taurus and i was told that the repair cost for replacing an oil pan gasket is 460.00 for parts and labor. they said they have to remove the exhaust, the starter, etc. is this true?? please help!

$460.00 sounds right on the money. Whether it is equipped with the 3.8L or 3.0L V6 engines, both require the exhaust y-pipe to be dropped in order to enable access to remove and replace the oil pan and/or gasket. I will assume yours is equipped with the 3.0L V6 since this is the only engine that uses a gasket on the oil pan. The replacement gasket from Ford is an updated composite type gasket used on 2002 model years and up, replacing the rubber style used on older model year 3.0L V6 engines, that tend to expand and push through. The 3.8L V6 engines use strictly silicone to seal the oil pan to the engine. A reasonable labour quote would be about 3 hours (which at $100/hour would equal $300). Parts at about $160 for the gasket plus oil and filter puts it right in that ballpark. Hope this helps.
