what is the smallest minivan? or suv?

looking for a used car in southern california. really don't want a big car, but do have a kid and need space for gear storage and what not. REALLY would like a honda or toyota, but know they would be pricier. thinking of a minivan, but like the smallest possible, haha. or smallish suv? help pls! looking to spend $3000-$4500
 
Smallest minivan is the Mazda 5. Also the Kia Rondo is very spacious.

For your price range, you are looking at a older short wheel base Chrysler or GM minivan. A midsize car may work for you if you only have one kid.

What you can buy them for completely depends on year, miles and condition.
