What is the theme or storyline of Death note?

Well I been hearing about the anime Death Note and been wondering what is the theme or storypoint. Can you write a summary about what is death note about.

Emm. I haven't seen or read much of it but I can tell you the basic jist of it.

Basically, a teenage boy called Light finds a notebook called Death Note and he tests it out by writing the names of criminals in it and finds out they die. People notice how many criminals are dying so quickly and try to find out who it is killing them. 'L' is one of them.

I can't say much more (I havent got far in the Anime)

well, all i know is that Death Note's genres are drama, mystery, psychological, shounen, supernatural and thriller.
 
it delves into Law, good vs evil, death, and ideas of playing God, i'd say

oh and most importantly - supernatural
