What is the whining noise when I accelerate on a cold engine?

When I first start my truck and press on the accelerator there is a high pitched whine. It goes away as soon as I let up on the gas. Once the engine has warmed up it goes away. It almost sounds like something need lubricating but it does in on our other car sometimes too. Both are older (the truck is a 99 and the tahoe is a 95)

I would say its your belts, the rubber gets cold and consequently shrinks and drys out. Once the engine warms up they are fine though. Get some belt dressing that should help with the problem, and you can buy that at any auto shop

In the older ford it is your power steering pump, NO FIX its a Ford thing, same with the Tahoe the power steering pumps are notorious for that.
