Digital cameras are typically set to take photos in a 4:3 ratio e.g. 3264x2448 or 2816x2112 etc, so cropping to suit a 5x7 or 8x10 print is asymmetric. Even cropping to a 4x6 can be asymmetric if the desired content is off-center.
On the editors I've used Crop and Resize are separate actions, and the function with a template would be a combination of Cropping and Resizing. Every tool supports the separate actions but have not found one that supports the combination as a proportioning tool.
When using Crop alone, I have to guesstimate the size to match 5x7 and fiddle with minor crops to get the proportion close to being accurate.
Since this is the only function I ever perform is there an editor which crops to a fixed aspect/template? Photoshop Elements has a Marquee function but it is not supported on W2K (yeah, yeah, I could do with a new computer...)
The free editors tend to support older Windows versions but have not found one with the fixed aspect cropping yet. Maybe someone here knows of one that works on older Windows platforms. Thanks
