Im a minor but me and my friend want to go to Russia. Is that allowed if my friend is over 18 and im 17? I dont have a passport so how would i go about getting one? and also how to ge a visa and for that matter whats a visa? lol

UK - You need a passport, get form from post office and you need you birth certificates and 2 small photos and it cost around £90, you will have to go to the passport office for an interview and you will need a letter of approval from your parents because you are under 18 and must have booked somewhere to stay. Long time ago when I went to Russia we were given a visa at the airport.

You need a passport - you get adult ones from when you are 16 - so you should be able to travel in your own right. You then need to apply for a Russian visa - contact the Russian embassy for details (they will have a website). A visa is simply an endorsement in your passport to allow you to enter the country and stay for a short period. (Cynics would say its a way of taxing tourists - as you usually have to pay a fee.) Sometimes you need a letter of introduction or details of where you are going to stay - requirements vary all the time so you need to get the latest advice from the embassy.

Allow plenty of time for organising this. When I went , you sent a photocopy of your passport and they translate your details into Russian. In those days you had to be on an organised tour - the state tourist board 'Intourist' - but I think things are more relaxed now. Your travel agent should be able to advise.
