Recently, my child's therapist (social worker) has asked her to do additional things at home (listen to guided imagery CD's, journal) and she is refusing. I know if her teacher "Ms. Smith" or her doctor "Dr. Smith" would ask her to do it, she would without hesitation.
I think because she calls her counselor by his first name, "Joe" she views him more as a friend and not as an educated individual with the knowledge to help her. She also is reluctant a lot right now. We briefly discussed what she would call him at the first visit, and because he wanted her to feel comfortable, she called him "Joe" but that was 6 months ago.
Do you think she disrespects him because she doesn't call him "dr." or "Mr."? What should she call her therapist?
