What should I do when I'm arguing with a friend?

There's a guy over the Internet that I had once started to speak to as chat buddies. However, for the majority of the time that we've interacted, he pretty much acts like an asshole. After an argument, the guy's still acting like an asshole and I've stopped speaking to him. I want to forgive him.... but what should I do?
