I have a male betta in a 10gal tank and I just recently put two mystery snails in. He's completely fine with them now, but during the first few hours, he was kind of mean to them. One of the things he did was he wrapped his body around the snail (in a complete circle; face touching tail) and did this weird wiggle or jive. It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

Does anybody know what that was?

How odd. I have kept mystery snails with Angelfish and Bettas alike and have never had that happen. I think perhaps the Betta was just curious. If it had been anything to do with aggression he would have been flaring, his body would have been straight as an arrow, and he probably would have tried to bite the foot of the snail.

In my country, we call them fighter/fighting fish. Reason is, you can't put two of them together in a small container cause they would fight each other and bite tail fins away. It's an aggressive fish if not contained in a large enough environment.

I think the fish was displaying his aggressiveness and telling the snail who's territory it is. lol. Your tank though, seems okay enough to house 1 beta fish.

You should have taken a vid and posted it in youtube. Cheers.

Trying to mate with it maybe. Seeing as if it was aggression it would have been flaring
