Hi everyone. In your opinion, what was the most important thing going on during the time when George Washington was president all the way up to Abraham Lincoln? Some people have said it is equality of rights and others have said the emergence and growth of the political parties, etc.. My teacher said it's the most important thing amidst all the stuff that was going on. I'd like to know your opinion. Thanks so much!
Oh and here's a little summary of what some people did:
Washington: executive privilege, executive agreement, two term limit law
John Adams: first emergence of a political party (Federalist), one and only Federalist president
Thomas Jefferson: second party created (Democratic Republican), one must own property to vote
Andrew Jackson: Democratic party, no property restrictions on voting
Abraham Lincoln: party that stood for anti-slavery, sectional voting
