what would damage coil wire on 1991 jeep cherokee?

all other plug wires are in good condition. coil wire is corroded internally and broken off at boot that connects on coil.
 
The coil wire fires every time a sparkplug fires, which means it takes 6 times the load. It may have gotten moisture in it as well.
